On the afternoon of June 19, 2024, the CAEP Academic Degree Evaluation Committee held its summer meeting in the multifunctional hall of Jiulong Hotel. The meeting was chaired by Academician Changpu Sun, Chairman of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, with 19 members present, meeting the quorum requirements and ensuring the validity of the meeting.
The meeting began with Qiaoqiao Wang, Director of the Admissions and Training Department of the Graduate School, presenting the situation of this year's summer degree applications. According to the "Regulations on Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China" and the "Implementation Rules for Degree Awarding at the China Academy of Engineering Physics," all attending committee members voted, resulting in the following decisions: 64 students, including Zhenhua Quan, were awarded Doctor of Science degrees. 66 students, including Chuanwei Wang, were awarded Doctor of Engineering degrees. 87 students, including Tao Shao, were awarded Master of Science degrees. 24 students, including Zhenning Xing, were awarded Master of Engineering degrees.
The committee also reviewed the proposal to establish a doctoral degree program in the sub-discipline of Solid Mechanics. Four teaching and research offices of Solid Mechanics provided detailed presentations on the background, necessity, feasibility, construction plan, and evaluations by internal and external expert review groups. The attending members unanimously agreed to the establishment of the Solid Mechanics doctoral program and provided constructive suggestions regarding the research directions and academic staff of the discipline.
Additionally, the committee members discussed the degree application conditions for jointly trained graduate students between Chinese and foreign institutions. They recommended considering factors such as effective joint training time, substantive cooperation, and project funding, and improving relevant recognition processes.
This meeting injected new vitality into the graduate education at CAEP and laid a solid foundation for the development of the Mechanics discipline at the institute. Moreover, the discussions on the unique joint training programs with foreign institutions will help improve the quality of jointly trained students and enhance the standardization of degree applications.
