From August 29 to September 5, 2025, the Graduate School of China Academy of Engineering Physics (GSCAEP) organized an orientation program for the 2025 cohort. A total of 430 new students from Beijing, Sichuan, Shanghai, and Anhui participated through on-site sessions in Beijing and Sichuan, as well as online sub-sessions.
To help new students quickly adapt to graduate-level study, GSCAEP arranged a diverse set of lectures and training sessions, including: course selection guidance, academic and administrative regulations, scholarships and assistantship policies, anti-fraud awareness, national security and confidentiality education, effective communication with advisors, codes of conduct, psychological well-being, the “Two Bombs Spirit,” and career development planning. Students also participated in study visits to Lugou Bridge, the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and the Institute No. 9 History Museum, and watched together the live broadcast of the 80th Anniversary Commemoration of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on September 3.
As part of the “Academicians’ Lecture Series,” Academician Side Hu delivered an inspiring thematic lecture on the “Two Bombs Spirit,” recounting the magnificent history of China’s nuclear weapons program and touching stories of the scientists involved, drawing on his own personal experiences. Academician Changpu Sun gave a lecture on research integrity and academic ethics, guiding students to cultivate scientific “taste,” maintain academic honesty, and correctly understand the relationship between theoretical and experimental research.
At the conclusion of the orientation program, GSCAEP hosted a lively and memorable welcome gala for the new students.
Throughout the week-long orientation, students received comprehensive education in patriotism, the Two Bombs Spirit, the spirit of scientists, school regulations, research planning, and mental health. The program effectively delivered the “first lesson” of their graduate studies, equipping students with the mindset and preparation needed to embark on their academic journey at GSCAEP.
