Forty years of journeying through the storm, forty years of perseverance.
Forty years of nurturing talent, forty years of spreading excellence.
Forty rings on the tree of time, etched with the vicissitudes of history and the brilliance of the years.
Forty springs and autumns, recording the steady pace and unyielding spirit.
As the autumn breeze refreshes, it's time to celebrate.
On the beautiful evening of September 10, Teacher’s Day, the students and faculty of the Institute of Modern Physics gathered at the basketball court of Garden Road No. 6 in Beijing to jointly present a limited edition, exclusive "Wonderful Night" event, filled with endless excitement. The "Wonderful Night at Garden Road No. 6" was a specially organized welcoming event for the freshmen of the 2024 class, featuring carnival games and a cultural performance. This was the first time the Institute hosted an outdoor evening event, held under the iconic "Gray Building," bringing a youthful and innovative atmosphere to make the spirit of the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" even more vivid and lively.
Among the participants were:
• Libin Fu, Vice Dean (acting head of administration) of the Graduate School of the Institute of Modern Physics,
• Jianhui Shan, Vice Dean and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Graduate School,
• Jiwei Li, Director of the Student Affairs Office (Head of the Party Committee Work Department),
• Yanzhen Zhang, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office,
• Yingying Zhao, Secretary of the Graduate School's Youth League Committee,
• Li Huang and Lei Xia, Staff members of the Student Affairs Office,
• Some faculty members from the Ninth Institute,
• Freshmen from the 2024 class studying in Beijing.
As the autumn wind gently brushes the treetops and the dusk settles in, time moved towards 6 PM on the 10th. The carnival kicked off with much excitement as students flocked to the basketball court. The carnival featured five carefully designed theme activities: "Rhythmic Atom Bomb," "Chang'e Flying to the Moon," "Only Through Struggle Can One Win," "Because of My Teacher, I Am Here," and "Unparalleled National Hero." Students could collect stamps on a card after participating in each activity, and after completing all five, they could exchange their collected stamps for grand prizes. The event area was beautifully decorated, with thoughtfully designed posters and concise game instructions. The prizes were generous, and a "Graduate School Frog" added a playful touch to the atmosphere. The event attracted a continuous stream of participants, even drawing the attention of staff from the Garden Road cafeteria and dormitories. Volunteers were also enjoying themselves, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
The carnival continued throughout the "Wonderful Night," and when night fully descended, many students were still reluctant to leave. At the prize booth, everyone was delighted, not only receiving prizes from the carnival but also two limited edition "Graduate School Mooncakes" prepared by the Graduate School.
At 6:30 PM, the carnival games area saw long lines, and the cultural performance began promptly, allowing students to enjoy the show while waiting to participate in the games—an innovative arrangement that was well received.
The cultural performance consisted of over 10 wonderful prearranged acts, with a rich variety of performances, including dance, piano, rap, choral singing, and solo singing. The performance also included two interactive game sessions, two lucky draws, and a final free performance segment, inviting both teachers and students to participate. Guided by the host, the audience first gave a warm round of applause to the dedicated leaders and teachers, followed by a heartfelt tribute to their own youthful, tireless efforts.
Highlights of the performance included the explosive opening dance "RINGO-itzy," duets such as "City of Stars," "Like the Wind," and "If the Moon Hasn't Come," piano medleys like "Shepherd of the Koktokay" and "Pure White," solo songs such as "Killer Move," "Dissolve the Sorrow," "Quick Sand," and "What’s the Point if You Win the World But Lose Me," and a group performance of "My Motherland and I." The atmosphere was charged with energy, and even the leaders and teachers were caught up in the excitement, taking the stage together to sing, concluding the event with a perfect ending. Everyone expressed their patriotic spirit, showing boundless love and affection for their country.
As the moonlight shone and the autumn wind carried a cool breeze, the "Wonderful Night" concluded with the joyful and contented smiles of everyone. All good things must come to an end. With cheers and applause echoing from the performances, the cultural performance at Garden Road No. 6 came to a successful close. This event enriched everyone's extracurricular cultural life, strengthened the bond between teachers and students, and showcased the collaborative, talented, and driven spirit of the Institute’s graduate students.
